Uzbek refugee Khamidkarievwas kidnapped in Russia

Uzbek refugee Mirsobir Khamidkariev was kidnapped in Moscowin the eveningon June 9. “Jarayon” was informed about that by Khamidkariev’s lawyer Illarion Vasiliyev, who stated about that referring to his client’s wife Ella.

According to Ella, their children began getting sick oftenas their family lived in an unfinished house. Yesterday evening, they called a taxi to take their child to hospital.

“At 19.00, a taxi arrived, a gray Lada Priora vehicle. The driver introduced himself as Nicholas”.

Ella said that the taxi driver refused to take the third person, Ilya, Mirsobir’s friend, into the car, asserting that the taxi was called only for the parents and the child.

On the way to the hospital, Ella asked the driver to stop near the drugstore Staryi Lekar [Old Doctor] located on Chaplygin Street. The woman and the child went to the pharmacy, and Mirsobir stayed in the car with belongings of the child they prepared for the child’s stay in hospital.

Ella says that they spent five minutesin the pharmacy, but when she came out with the child, the car was gone, as well as her husband.

Then she started callingher husband, but he did not answer her calls.

Sensing something was wrong, Ella began asking passersby if they had seen the parked near the pharmacy. A woman walking with her dogappeared to be an eyewitness. She told Ella that two men rushed into the car, the car drove away to Chistoprudny Boulevard.

Lawyer Illarion Vasiliyevtold Jarayon that GrazhdanskoeSodeistvie [Civic Assistance] Committee notified the FSB, the border service, the FMS and the Commissioner for Human Rights about the need to prevent taking the kidnapped man across the state border of the Russian Federation.

Also, Civic Assistance representativessubmitted a report to the Basman districtcity police department, the city of Moscow, as well as the European Court about the kidnapping of Uzbek refugeeMirsobirKhamidkariev on the territory of the Russian Federation.

I would remind that 37-year-old producer and entrepreneur from Uzbekistan Mirsobir Khamidkarievwas arrested on July 10, 2013 in Moscow following a request of the Uzbek authorities. In August 2013, the Russian side tried to extradite him to Uzbekistan.

Mirsobir Khamidkariev has been internationally wanted since 2011,the Uzbek authorities accused him of participation in a banned religious extremist organization (part 1 of Article 244-2 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan).

According to Uzbek investigators, Mirsobir Khamidkariev together with a group of men from Tashkent created a terrorist organization called “Islomzhikhodchilari” in 2009 composed of prominent athletes, creative intelligentsia and businessmen.

However, Russian human rights activists say these charges were fabricated.

Mirsobir Khamidkarievtold Jarayon that he began having problems in 2010: unidentified masked men with guns took goods from his store “World of Electronics”. On the night of December 24 to 25, when he and his wife returned home after celebrating his birthday, his car was fired on. Two hours later, it appeared that the SNB detained Miraziz,MirsobirKhamidkariev’s younger brother. The same day, the producer and his wife left Uzbekistan.

Many of MirsobirKhamidkariev’sacquaintances, friends as well as his younger brother were arrested by representatives of the Uzbek intelligence service; they were sentenced to many years of imprisonment,and were severely tortured.

Civic Assistance Committeein Russiaprotects the rights of Uzbek producer Mirsobir Khamidkariev.

“Jarayon” will continue following the fate of Uzbek refugee Mirsobir Khamidkariev.
