Prominent human rights activist Mutabar Tadjibayeva arrested in Tashkent

Mutabar Tadjibayeva is leader of the “Fiery Hearts Club” in the city of Ferghana and one of the organizers of popular movement Civil Society. The authorities harass the human rights activist for her political convictions.

On the night on October 8 Tadjibayeva was booked on a flight to Dublin where an international conference for defense of human rights activists was planned.

The police took her place in a ring that very night. More than 20 men (including senior police officers, servicemen of special forces, and six masked men brandishing assault rifles and truncheons) forced their way inside. Tadjibayeva’s arrest was reported by newspaper Central Asia, a new web-edition from France (http://www.bazarslave.com/Asia/). The report has not been confirmed by any other sources so far.

Tajibayeva was expecting something like that. The authorities let it be known that criminal charges had been pressed against her for support of Akromians in Andijan. Whoever knows the human rights activist in person is convinced that the case against her has been fabricated.
