Geneva police is looking for Uzbek rights activist Mutabar Tadjibayeva

On Sunday, March 3, Mutabar Tadjibayeva, human rights activist from Uzbekistan and head of the International Human Rights Organization “Fiery Hearts Club”, informed “Jarayon” that she is wanted by police in Geneva, where she is participating in International Human Rights Film Festival.

According to her, the police did not give any explanations to the organizers of the film festival to the reasons why the law enforcement officers of Switzerland are searching for well-known Uzbek human rights activist.

“I spoke with a police officer on the phone and during the conversation I realized that they have received a complaint against me from Mission of Uzbekistan to the United Nations. I assume that the complaint is a response to my complaint to the UN on the Uzbek authorities.

Also, at the film festival, I spoke about the crimes of the Uzbek authorities that I personally witnessed. In addition, yesterday I found a house of Gulnora Karimova [daughter of Islam Karimov, president of Uzbekitan – Jarayon], bought in Geneva. Perhaps these are the three reasons to the fact I am searched for by Geneva police,” said Mutabar Tadjibayeva.

According to her, the police did not give any reasons why they want to meet with human rights activist.

“They just said they wanted to meet me at the airport of Geneva, – said Tadjibayeva.

At the moment, the organizers of the festival are looking for ways to ensure safe travel of Mutabar Tadjibayeva back to Paris, where she lives in emigration.

Mutabar Tadjibayeva arrived to Geneva on March 1 to participate in the ten-day International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH).
