Tamara Sobirova, sister of Uzbek president’s wife, purchased a luxury apartment in the heart of Istanbul a reader writes to “Jarayon”.

Recently, head of the international human rights organization “Fiery Hearts Club”, Mutabar Tadjibayeva, received an email from one of the readers of “Jarayon”, which says that Tamara Sobirova, sister of Tatiana Akbarovna Karimova – the first lady of Uzbekistan, bought a multi-million dollar property abroad.

“I happened to read your article about your experience in Geneva, about Gulnara Karimova’s house there, and about who and how was spending the money of ordinary Uzbek people,” writes the reader of “Jarayon”, adding that Tamara Sobirova bought fashionable hotels, apartments in luxury homes, cars of expensive brands, and opened bank accounts in one of the former Soviet republics. “Jarayon” decided to have its own journalistic investigation into the purchasing of apartment in Istanbul by Tamara Sobirova.

Mutabar Tadjibayeva, head of an international human rights organization “Fiery Hearts Club”, is planning to contact the authorities of Turkey with a question of whether they believe in legal origins of the money used by Tamara Sobirova to buy the apartment in Istanbul, and it is not yet another attempt of the Karimov family to launder illegal money.

In addition, the human rights activist does not exclude that a great game can be covered under the attempts to publicly disclosing the facts relating to the family of Uzbekistan’s president.

– Leaking of classified documents related to the Karimov family in the media may mean that the struggle for power is in full swing in Uzbekistan. If so, then those, who have turned their eyes to the throne of the head of state, are no longer afraid of the terrible 75-year-old dictator. At the same time, we cannot exclude a different version. Now, when the public image president’s daughters is blackening day by day, Islam Karimov is sacrificing Tamara Sobirova and her children, who damaged the Karimov family’s authority in Fergana, perhaps trying to somehow improve their image.

Thus, Karimov, first, gets rid of “inconvenient” relatives (we can say that the recent arrest of Akbarali Abdullayev, Tamara Sobirova’s son, is just one link in this chain), and, secondly, by doing so, Karimov may rehabilitate his authority and can show himself as a “just ruler”. That is, perhaps, all this is done to have people say “You see, our president is just, if necessary, he can even punish his loved ones.” Today, when human rights are violated in every region of Uzbekistan, Uzbek officials have a need for such a game, which is sometimes simply comforting people, – says Mutabar Tadjibayeva.

Head of the “Fiery Hearts Club” believes that, in any case, all these facts about the Karimov family must be announced to the public after a thorough inspection. According to human rights activist, today it is necessary to monitor the expenditure of funds stolen and illegally exported from Uzbekistan.
