Jailed rights activist Khudoynazarov’s sentence prolonged
Authorities prolonged the sentence Abdurasulov Khudoynazarov, jailed activist of the Human Rights Society “Ezgulik”, who is serving the term in the prison #64/21 in Bekabad city of Tashkent region.
“Jarayon” learned about it from human rights activist’s wife Gulchekhra Turonova.
According to her, an additional prison sentence was added to the existing term of her husband because of the fact that the defender had a blade with himself and thus “violated” the internal rules of penal institution.
– And the management of the Central Penal Department of the Interior Ministry and the administration of Tashkent prison informed us that on October 4 my husband was transferred to the colony #64/46 located Zarafshan city. They say that my husband violated the internal order in the colony in Bekabad. But no one tells us how long was added to the sentence of my husband, – says Gulchekhra Turonova.
Press service of the Human Rights Society “Ezgulik” also stated that the organization received information that Abdurasul Khudoinazarov had been illegally transferred to prison #64/46 in Zarafshan, but it was not clear how much was added to the sentence of the human rights activist.
According to the press service of the society, Abdurasul Khudoinazarov is a former employee of the Ministry of Interior, and in accordance with the requirements of the Penal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he must serve his sentence in prison in Bekabad.
As Gulchekhra Turonova says, additional jail time can be too much for Khudoinazarov. Five years ago, he tried to commit suicide by trying to hang himself, because of unbearable torture in solitary confinement, but luckily, he survived.
Abdurasul Khudoinazarov, chairman of the Angren city branch of the Human Rights Society “Ezgulik”, was mainly engaged in exposing the illegal actions of law enforcement bodies. He was arrested in June 2005, and in January 2006 the Tashkent Regional Criminal Court sentenced him to 9.5 years in prison. He never enjoyed the amnesty act of the Uzbek authorities.
