Abdurasul Khudoinazarov, another victim of torture, died in Uzbekistan on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

According to “Ezgulik” Human Rights Society,Abdurasul Khudoinazarov, a 58-year-old prominent human rights activist died in Uzbekistanon June 26at 8 o’clock in the morning. He was kept in prison for many years. He was the chairman of “Ezgulik” Human Rights Societyin the city of Angren.
Human rights activist Abdurasul Khudoinazarov lived only 25 days after his release from prison 64/18 in the city of Tashkent on May 30, 2014. Immediately after the release, Khudoinazarov was placed in Tashkent province cancer hospitalas he was diagnosed with cancer spread to liver and bone lymph as well asacute tuberculosis, the last degree of adenoma, prostatitis and acute hemorrhoids. In the last days of his life, his health was extremely grave.
His wife GulchehraTuronovasaid that human rights would be buried in Angren, Tashkent province, on June 26 in the afternoon.
Abdurasul Khudoinazarov was arrested in June 2005, and sentenced to 9.5 years in prison in January 2006 by Tashkent Province Criminal Court. He was charged with crimes according to Article 165 (Solicitation), Article 168 (Fraud) and article 227 (Forgery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Khudoinazarov rights activist was released from prison due to his disease according to Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which stipulates that an inmate shall be exempt from serving in case of serious illness that prevents him or her from serving the punishment,.
Abdurasul Khudoinazarov was mainly engaged in revealing illegal actions of law enforcement bodies.
Until today his colleagues assert that the criminal case against Khudoinazarov was fabricated due to his professional activities.
In prison, human rights defender Abdurasul Khudoinazarov was never granted an amnesty. Despite the fact that the rights activist suffered from tuberculosisin the prison, he was placed in solitary confinementseveral times. In addition, he was tortured.
In September 2008, due to humiliation and torture in Bekabad prison, Abdurasul Khudoinazarov attempted suicide, but he survivedby sheer luck.
In April 2014, Khudoinazarov was transferred from prison in Navoi province to Sangorodin grave condition (Sangorodis prison hospital UA 64/18, located in Tashkent –Jarayon’s note).
