Petition for the of political prosoners in Uzbekistan
Dear Sir, Madame
We appeal to the citizens, civil society organizations and governments of free Europe to support and sign our petition for the release of political prisoners in Uzbekistan.
We are convinced that under the established brutal authoritarian political regime of Uzbekistan the only hope for the release of political prisoners is the political pressure on Uzbek authorities by the free countries of Europe, its citizens, public organizations and governments.

6.1: LEGISLATION
The population in Uzbekistan generally has inadequate knowledge of applicable laws and rules (Tadjibayeva, meeting 7 February 2012; OECD 2011) and there also seems to be uncertainty on the regulations for passport issuance, residency registration and entry/exit. Questions related to the issuance and renewal of passports and exit visas for Uzbeks living abroad has been a popular topic on the Uzbek discussion forum arbuz.com.12 Questions on procedures, conditions and consequences for violating the regulations on exit have been the subject of discussion (see, for example, Landinfo 2011 on exit provisions). It is a problem that the rules are being enforced arbitrarily, in addition to being subject to political manipulation and corruption (see chapter 7 on corruption).

Observers have noted that in recent years more and more Uzbek women, suffering from domestic violence, are seeking asylum in Turkey.
“You may not believe it, but I do not really remember how I came here. My husband used to beat me severely on my head, especially my forehead against the corner of a wall. Before, I calmed myself saying “So I have such kind of husband and life, and women are beaten by their husbands.” But later, I started suffering from headaches, insomnia, and high blood pressure.
