Investigation of the Swedish Prosecutors Office of telecommunications company TeliaSonera, accusing its leadership of giving bribes in huge amounts to Uzbek citizens, who are close to Uzbek president’s family, has caused a major stir not only in Scandinavia, but also throughout the Eurasian continent. Despite the fact that the management of TeliaSonera refutes the allegations made ​​against the company, the facts presented by journalists and the recent events in Uzbekistan only confirm conspiracy between the Uzbek dictatorship and TeliaSonera, one of the leaders in mobile market of Uzbekistan.

Authorities prolonged the sentence Abdurasulov Khudoynazarov, jailed activist of the Human Rights Society “Ezgulik”, who is serving the term in the prison #64/21 in Bekabad city of Tashkent region.

“Jarayon” learned about it from human rights activist’s wife Gulchekhra Turonova.

According to her, an additional prison sentence was added to the existing term of her husband because of the fact that the defender had a blade with himself and thus “violated” the internal rules of penal institution.

On an eve of a deep political and economic crisis in Uzbekistan, Gulnara Karimova is holding her yet another PR-project.

The arrest of the three-level apartment of Gulnara Karimova in the center of Moscow, the arrest of four citizens of Uzbekistan in Switzerland, representatives and managers of firms controlled by Gulnara Karimova, freezing the Swiss bank accounts with several hundred million U.S. dollars belonging to persons close to Gulnara Karimova, the arrest by Prosecutor’s office in Sweden of multimillion-dollar assets of firms controlled by Gulnara Karimova, investigations in Sweden and Switzerland of cases related to bribery of $ 300 million to Uzbek officials by “TeliaSonera”s management, the scandalous resignation of former head of “TeliaSonera” Lars Nyberg; documentary films about the corrupt financial schemes of “TeliaSonera” with Uzbek partners, publication of documents proving that Gulnara Karimova is involved in extortion of bribes, termination of Gulnara Karimova’s office as a head of mission of Uzbekistan to the UN in Geneva with the loss of diplomatic immunity, police raids into several houses of Gulnara Karimova in Switzerland and France investigating the money laundering case; scandalous interview of Lola Karimova, Gulnara’s yonger sister, about the conflict in Uzbek president’s family – these and other facts make “ArtWeek Style.uz-2013” different from previous ones.

On October 3, 2013, due to his ill health, journalist Solijon Abdurakhmanov was transferred from Karshi prison #64/51 to “Sangorod” (medical facility for prisoners) in Tashkent.

On Thursday, October 17, Solijon Abdurahmanov’s relatives went to the prison hospital UYa 64/18 (colloquially called “Sangorod”) to meet with him and pass him parcel. However, the prison administration informed the relatives that Solijon Abdurahmanov had been placed in solitary confinement for 15 days and would stay there until November 1.

Shukurjon Abdurahmanova, Solijonov Abdurahmanov’s wife, told about this on October 17 to the head of the International Human Rights Association “Fiery Hearts Club”, Mutabar Tadjibayeva.

On October 8 this year, Human Rights Society “Ezgulik” issued a press-release in which it expressed its concerns about the situation of four political prisoners in detention in Uzbekistan.

They are independent journalists Dilmurod Sayyid and Salidzhon Abdurahmanov, rights activist Abdurasul Khudoinazarov and former member of parliament of Uzbekistan, member of the opposition party “Erk” (Freedom) Murod Juraev.

In connection with this, “Jarayon” launches a new section entitled “Freedom to political prisoners!” and starts publishing series of articles about the present situation of each political prisoner listed above.

A little less than a quarter of a century has passed since Islam Karimov became the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan and its irreplaceable leader.

During this period of time, Islam Karimov created one of the most authoritarian, oppressive and brutal regimes of the 21st century. Annual reports of international organizations continuously name him a dictator, and the country is put is on one of the last places in the world on the corruption index.

All political and religious opponents of Karimov were arrested and imprisoned on trumped-up criminal cases during the first years of his reign. Torture, abuses, violence and inhuman treatment of prisoners in penal institutions are practiced by authorities to the present day.

The scandal surrounding the Scandinavian telecommunications company is growing.

The investigation into bribery and corruption that started in Sweden in relation to a mobile operator can significantly extend its boundaries. There is no doubt that “TeliaSonera” is one of the participants in the complicated chain of financial corruption created by Gulnara Karimova, eldest daughter of bloody dictator Islam Karimov, president of Uzbekistan.
